The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana is a MAJOR distribution point for food and other items to Hurricane Katrina survivors.

They send the food and other items to NUMEROUS Hurricane Katrina shelters.

They are a GREAT organization and are doing great work. But they need YOUR help.

They need food and other items NOW.

Please read this page carefully and completely BEFORE you send anything, however, because they are in need of SPECIFIC things.

This is what they need:

FOOD

Foods that have a long shelf-life, particularly CANNED foods.

LARGE CANS of food, such as the #10 cans that you can purchase at large stores like Costco and Sam's Club are best. However, smaller cans are also fine. Send what you can.

Canned foods such as:

Canned vegetables

Canned stew

Canned beef

Canned soup

Canned tuna

Canned peanut butter

Canned jelly

And, again, foods with a long shelf-life.

THEY NEED FOOD NOW

DO NOT send food that needs to be micorwaved, and do not send perishables of any kind.

Remember - CANNED FOODS

------------------

BEVERAGES

Large containers of soda pop.

Large containers of Gatorade, or others sports drinks.

DO NOT SEND WATER - They do not need water at this time.

------------------

CLOTHING

They ONLY need:

UNDERGARMENTS - for men, women, and children.

They also need SOCKS - for men, women, and children

They do not need any other type of clothing at this time.

Please ONLY send undergarments and socks.

And please make sure the items that you send are in clean and in good condition/

DO NOT just empty your closet of old items, contribute clean, high quality items.

------------------

PERSONAL ITEMS

They need:

Shaving cream

Razors

Shampoo

Tooth paste

Tooth brushes

Feminine hygiene products

Hair clips

Hair bands

Please make sure that you only send items in this category that are NEW.

------------------

GAMES AND TOYS

They need:

ANY type of game that you can send them (non electronic):

Board games.

Cards.

Checkers and checkerboards.

Puzzles.

Toys.

Stuffed Animals.

Please make sure that the items that you send are clean and in good condition.

------------------

Also,

Send them cards and letters.

LIFT THEIR SPIRITS by sending the Hurricane Katrina survivors cards and letters.

If you have children, help your children make cards out of paper and crayons.

Homemade cards from children will brighten the Hurricane Katrina survivors day!

All of the cards and letters that you send will be given to Hurricane Katrina survivors in need of comfort, hope, and love.

It is best to get a large envelpe and send several homemade cards, store bought cards, and letters at one time.

Just enclose a note requesting that the cards and letters be forwarded to Hurricane Katrina survivors...and the survivors will get them. And remember to tell them that you are a Project Care.com volunteer.

Another GREAT thing that Project Care.com volunteers are doing is this:

Some wonderful Project Care.com volunteers are communicating with schools and getting classes of children to make hand made cards, then they are sending them to the survivors at the address above.

As a Project Care.com volunteer, you can do the same. You can contact the administrators and teachers in YOUR community, tell them that you are from Project Care.com, and ask if they would like to be part of the project of sending card to Hurricane Katrina survivors.

Let's lift the spirits of our brothers and sisters who survived the hurricane by sending our LOVE to them with these cards.

------------------

DO NOT send any type of medication, including aspirin, tylenol, etc.

------------------

Send the items to:

Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana
2307 Texas Ave.
Shreveport, LA 71103

------------------

Also, please visit the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana's website:

Food Bank NLA.org

Their e-mail address is:

info@FoodBankNLA.org

Their phone number is: (318) 675-2400

Their fax number is: (318) 675-2440

------------------

The food bank also accepts cash donations. Please note that money from the Red Cross will not be given to them. They are a completely separate organization.

So you can send money in lieu of items, or in addition to items.

If you want to donate, you can send a check to the address above, or you can donate on their website.

------------------

The great people who are working with Katrina Help.com and Project Care.com to distribute the items that YOU are sending wanted me to tell you this:

We are eternally grateful for everything that you are sending.

You are making a BIG difference.

Thank you.

------------------

Send the food and other items as soon as possible.

You do make a BIG difference.

And we ALL need to work together to help the Hurricane Katrina survivors.

DO NOT be one of the innumerable people who does nothing when people need help.

Reach out now.

Send them food...items...cards...and LOVE!

Thank you for helping.

God bless you.

Take care,
